History and Location
Weingut Mayer am Pfarrplatz is the epitome of Viennese Heurigen culture. The winery in Heiligenstadt has a centuries-old tradition crafting the finest Viennese wines since 1683. Beethoven lived in a house on the winery estate in 1817 while he was working on his 9th Symphony. Viticulture Vienna is the only metropolitan city in the world with notable viticultural areas within its city boundaries and its terroir is unique, covering a surface area of approx. 640 hectares. The vineyards lay on Flysch-marl with shell limestone and extremely varied localized soil formations. Warm winds from the Pannonian Plain, and cooling microclimates created by the Vienna Woods and the Danube contribute unique factors which allow great wines to be produced.
