- Nebbiolo
The Nebbiolo variety of Vitis vinifera is recorded as being grown in Northern Italy since the 13th Century. Today the grape is mostly grown in Piedmont and Lombardy and a few niche wineries in the New World. The grape is also known as Spanna (in North Piedmont), Picoutener or Picotendro (in Valle d'Aosta), and Chiavennasca (in Valtellina). The most popular wines made from Nebbiolo are from the Barolo and Barbaresco regions of Piedmont and carry the name of the eponymous wine-growing region.
