Saint-Peray Blanc Vieilles Vignes 2015, Tardieu-Laurent, North Rhone
Tasting notes
This St. Peray Vieilles Vignes by Tardieu is mineral, fruity, spicy, richly-dry, in equal measure. It's always delicious young, and ages over 10-15 years. It is a blend of 50-100 year old Marsanne and over 40 year-old Roussanne vines, the main duo of the three white grapes found in the North Rhone. It is raised 12 months in new and one-year old casks from the forests of Allier, Tronçais and Jupille, which it certainly takes in its stride. (D.H. 2020)

Expert's View
"St. Peray is a small clay-limestone appellation in the North Rhone valley, just below Cornas on the map. The grapes are 90% Marsanne, and 80% is still made into sparkling wine. However, old-vines given the still white wine treatment by top winemakers show that this is the true potential of the region. It shines way over Crozes Hermitage Blanc, and can equal Condrieu in the quality stakes, albeit in an entirely different way. It's more gathered, more focused, more fresh, less of a drama queen. It's like North Rhone meets Southern Burgundy." ~ Clear Wine Co's Wine Expert
