While not as internationally renowned as neighbouring Germany or Italy for its wine production, Austria has always been historically significant as a wine producing nation, and winemaking and wine drinking is key to the Austrian culture. The Austrian viticultural approach is small in scale, individualistic, even at times eccentric and unusual, and yet the results are rarely anything less than superb.
