La Mesma is a Gavi producer founded by the three Rosina sisters. They started in 2001 with a very famous historic vineyard called Monterotondo, bought more vineyards and an old winery building and started a Gavi di Gavi label to make an estate-based, estate-bottled wine. Yellow label wine is made from the Cortese grape grown on hillside plots at 350 metres facing south-east on the calcareous soils of Monterotondo.
They have been doing Simonit & Sirch pruning; which makes a massive difference to vine health and assists wine quality. The grapes are hand harvested, and soft pressed immediately. The wine is raised in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. In the Slow Wine Guide from Italy, they won the top quality wine award called the Bottle Award 2018 and in 2017 they won the Value Award again in the Slow Wine Guide.
