Wingspan is produced by the Woollaston company’s Mahana winery, but in 2019 their nine-hectare Sauvignon Blanc vineyard was bought out by a venture capital company. Woollaston had a shared ideal of creating an estate which produced fine wines. They’ve got 90 hectares of existing vines in the Moutere Hills and built a really wonderful carbon neutral building so the intention there is to make really premium wines and that elite quality focused winery called the Mahana Winery. What they did with Mahana was to incept a second label called Wingspan and to bottle Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and some Pinot Gris at really affordable every day prices.
They practice organically farmed, sustainable and biodynamic winemaking. Their wine-maker Michael Glover makes wine naturally without additives and only uses ‘wild’ yeasts for fermentation. Wingspan's NZ Sauvignon Blanc is really cracking at really affordable every day prices, giving everybody value for money if you can get hold of it. The quality is so good that it even ended up in the top one hundred value wines of the whole world Wine Enthusiast magazine a few years ago.
