The modern approach to sustainable agriculture, recognizes that the services that mother nature provides, including pollination, soil formation, and nutrient cycling, are all necessary for the continuing production of quality produce for future generations. Producers that adhere to the principles of sustainable agriculture yet are uncertified, maybe for reasons of affordability, have chosen to exist outside the regulatory framework. They operate a compact to follow ways of achieving sustainability (though not necessarily by organic farming). The wines listed are from those producers who prefer the flexibility of choosing their own pathway to quality and acceptability.
